Individual therapy

I support people struggling with their food relationship, by interrupting symptoms and healing the deeper issues.
An eating disorder often develops as a coping strategy to support you through difficult times. It can offer a sense of control; it distracts from deeper pain and offers glimmers of self-worth. It works, until it doesn't and then becomes a miserable cage and destructive force. In one-to-one therapy, I combine working on the deeper issues with active symptom interruption. I believe that full recovery is possible for everyone and bring compassion, encouragement and ongoing support to our work together. I have personally recovered from bulimia and have 20 years + of experience in working in NHS and private practice. If you would like to book a free half-hour discovery call to find out more about therapy, please contact me: [email protected] You may also be interested in my VIP Bulimia Intensive Recovery support. My approach involves working in an Integrative way. This means that I help you understand your past and the contributing factors to the eating disorder development, alongside working on symptom interruption too. I also provide you with the tools and therapy skills to become your own therapist and to recover from an eating disorder. Reading and training materials are provided through the therapy, tailored to your specific needs. I remember at the start thinking I'll probably need to do (ED) therapy for life. It felt such a vital lifeline for me. Each session felt enormous, along with my reflections after and my work in between sessions. But I am amazed that after just 1 0 sessions, I feel ready and excited to be finished with it and to see how I manage on my own. I feel so proud of myself for doing this ED work and feel so grateful I found Harriet who has been the perfect therapist for me....wisdom, humour, lived experience. I have learnt so much. Lesley Just wanted to message you and let you know how much more freedom I have in my life, since we met, I'm so happy! I am eating now, when my body wants to eat, without a thousand questions! My head is so much quieter for it and it feels a real blessing. I barely ever think about calories or anything! I'm challenging my 'rules' everyday and then they are disappearing because I'm not engaging with them! I actually trust my body for the first time in what feels like forever! Thank you. The breakthrough session was so worth it! Emma Thank you so much for the course. It has definitely set me on the right path and has helped me to see that this is the right thing for me to do. I accept that it will take time and work but finally I am confident that I can change my relationship with food, my weight and my body. I will be forever grateful for your support. I would wholeheartedly recommend both yourself and the course. Jackie Our work together has enabled me for the first time to see food as food and not as something that takes over your life. Working with Harriet helped me soundboard my thoughts and see them for what they were, just rigid thinking. Celeste I have suffered with disordered eating for several years, and seeing Harriet has really helped inspire me with confidence and the strength to get better. The environment that Harriet provides is comfortable and welcoming. Although I still have a fair way to go, already my relationship with food has greatly improved. Matt |
Therapy length can vary from anything between 4 sessions to 20+ sessions and is often somewhere in-between.
One-to-one therapy price: - £80 for a 60 minute session. All sessions on Zoom. To gain an insight into my approach, you may wish to listen to The Eating Disorder Therapist Podcast. I am trained in CBTe, Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. I also have an Eating Disorders Diploma from the National Centre for Eating Disorders, a Diploma in Counselling and Masters in Nutrition. I work with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, OSFED, binge eating disorder, orthorexia and disordered eating. Harriet helped me to shine a light on the damage that years of dieting and bingeing had done to my relationship with food. She taught me to listen and respond to my body, rather than to live my life by meal plans, and to enjoy the foods I love instead of beating myself up and thinking 'I've blown it' every time I ate something forbidden. Most importantly, Harriet taught me to love and care for my body, to take time out for myself and to be happy in the moment, rather than in the future when I've met my goals. Now I'm able to lead a balanced, healthy lifestyle, but now it's because I actually want to and not because I 'should' Louise Thank you for the hard work you have put into our therapy sessions over the past few months. I have found the work we have done to be immensely beneficial and I think it has helped me put some major building blocks in place in my fight to overcome anorexia nervosa. I especially drew a lot of hope and motivation from our session when we imagined a future with a life without this illness. I find strength in that when I am struggling. Lucy I just wanted to say thanks for giving me such a positive experience of therapy. I really appreciate your support. Bea Thank you so much for helping me through one of the toughest times of my life. I never thought I'd actually enjoy therapy but you proved me wrong! Claire My life has changed so much since we first set out on this journey. Now I can see a future - one with hopes and dreams, not just an existence. Anna |
